Infinite Bioshock, just announced, should mark a renaissance in the series. Will you have the patience to wait until 2012?
After a teaser campaign rather obscure, Irrational Games has finally decided to expand on his plan Icarus: it's actually the next Bioshock, Bioshock called Infinite! And not to spoil the surprise, you can just enjoy the magnificent trailer before continuing.
Farewell the 1960s, Rapture, and the claustrophobia of the seabed. And welcome to the 1910s, at Columbia, and the rapture of heights! The genial father of Thief, System Shock II, Bioshock (but not the semi-disappointment Bioshock 2, developed externally), Ken Levine says himself: he seemed to have gone round the issue with Rapture. Columbia, too, is given by ideals. Ideals well summarized in its slogan to fascist overtones, "For the faith, race, for the country. Founded by American ultranationalist, the city has been built in the sky through the huge airships and aerial tracks that feel like steampunk. That is the context.
Our hero, must put his hand on Elizabeth, a young girl held prisoner in this city on the verge of tipping into madness. To believe this trailer, it should also have a bone to pick with massive armored guards, probably the ancestors of the Big Daddies. The developers also provide many interactions between the player and Elizabeth, who will make use of psy powers along the lines of previous episodes of plasmids. Moreover, like the first Bioshock, emphasis should be placed on exploration, and freedom of movement and action should be further strengthened.
Bioshock Infinite is scheduled for 2012. The wait will be long.
