Motorola Droid 2: Android smartphone 2.2 for Verizon


Announced last week, the smartphone Motorola Droid 2 wants to make as strong impression that the first time this Droid incorporating Android Froyo 2.2 and Flash Support 10.1.

Motorola had a surprise in November 2009 by unveiling the Motorola Droid, a high-end smartphone Android launched in the U.S. operator Verizon Wireless and that marked the true return of the manufacturer on the front of the stage.

He has since launched a series of models on the basis of this good initial impression. The Droid Motorola now has an official successor to the Motorola Droid 2 which shows the outline of the first and is still distributed by Verizon Wireless.

Announced on August 10 last, he still has a large touchscreen on the front but also a sliding full keyboard. If the shape changes little, it is now Android 2.2 Froyo behind the terminal, with the support of Flash 10.1.

The Motorola Droid will impress with its two large display 3.7 "multitouch and TI OMAP36x applications processor running at 1 GHz, engraved in 45nm, thus taking advantage of advances in power and energy consumption compared to TI OMAP34x First Droid.


A solid smartphone directly on Android 2.2

It embeds 512 MB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, expandable MicroSD slot (8GB card included) and has WiFi wireless connectivity, Bluetooth 2.1 EDR and a GPS module. It is also possible to transform it into mobile hotspot, capturing signal 3G and beaming to other devices via WiFi.

The Motorola Droid 2 wants versatile and able to respond to needs both private and professional, with the support of an enterprise-class messaging and push email compatible.There is a 5 megapixel digital camera back and the ability to record video in 720p before sharing with other devices via DLNA protocol (Digital Living Network Alliance).


Android 2.2, the smartphone can obviously use the portal Android Market to gain new mobile applications, while Verizon has placed more of its services (NFL Mobile, Skype Mobile, Blockbuster on Demand, My Verizon Backup Assistant ... ).

The smartphone Motorola Droid 2 is available since August 11 on the operator's website and since August 12 in Verizon stores, priced at 199.99 dollars with a two-year subscription. But being compatible with 3G CDMA2000 EV-DO, it is not usable as it is on our mobile networks in Europe.

And wink to the robot R2-D2 from Star Wars, Verizon will offer a special edition R2-D2 Droid 2 Motorola in September on its website, with exclusive Star Wars content and the forms of a device known Droid.

There is no information yet on a possible European version of the Motorola Droid 2 even though it should be in cartons and unveiled later this year.
