The patent war (and nerves) triggered by Microsoft against Salesforce.com in May on the CRM software patents ended with an amicable agreement between the two companies.
In May 2010, Microsoft has unleashed an offensive against the publisher of business software Salesforce.com, accusing him of unauthorized use some of its patents in its CRM solutions.
for observers, it was mainly to protect its own Microsoft Dynamics solution by forcing his opponent to negotiate. But the dealings previously had given nothing, the threat by filing a complaint that has logically followed.
Just as logically, and to put on an equal footing, Salesforce.com has responded by complaining to his tower for the same reason, the violation of several patents. After these passages at arms, Microsoft announced that it finally found a mutual agreement that puts an end to complaints.
Agreement under duress?
The group has received financial compensation, the amount was not disclosed, in exchange for access to some of its patents, while he himself could use some patents Salesforce.com.
This is an opportunity for Microsoft to show the power of its patent portfolio and its licensing program that has generated more than 600 agreements since its launch in late 2003. The agreement would be "an example of how two companies can compete seriously in the market while respecting intellectual property rights of everyone." It is hoped that Salesforce.com could say the same.
