Zoom.it, the site that facilitates sharing of high definition images

This project of Live Labs, Microsoft, has been online since August 4th. It inserts a high definition image in a Web page, with the ability to zoom and move it over to his guide to using the mouse.

The operation is conducted from the site zoom.it. Just enter the URL of an image (the site will convert to Deep Zoom), and insert the generated code into their web page, as is done with a video, for example. The magnification and displacement within the image are very fluid, whatever its size.

Everything depends on the viewing engine Seadragon (acquired by Microsoft in 2006 and already used with the Photosynth software) and conversion of images in Deep Zoom. This format breaks down a shot into a mosaic pyramid (see cons).

This accelerates the display of an image by downloading only the necessary data based on zoom level and requested the area to display.
