Acer LumiRead

IFA 2010: Acer launches clone Kindle, LumiRead This eBook includes a full keyboard and Wi-Fi and 3G.

The IFA has been an opportunity for Acer to show the public its first electronic book in Berlin, the LumiRead. With its 6-inch TFT screen - about 15 inches diagonal - like e-ink and its full keyboard, this eBook reader has disturbing similarities with the Kindle from Amazon, both in terms of design and technical features. Compatible with Wi-Fi and DLNA, the LumiRead includes 2 GB of flash memory (or 1500 pounds), expandable with a MicroSD card slot. With its 1460 mAh battery, it also offer a range of 8,000 pages turned. For a few euros extra, a model carrying a 3G module will be marketed.

An e-Library expanded


Beyond partnering with the U.S. Barnes and Nobles (competitor to Amazon) by providing users nearly a million titles, is distinguished by its LumiRead library board (nearly 4 million shares) s Relying on the site libri.de, for the German market. The formats supported by the device are many (from ePub to PDF via Word) and used to include MP3 audiobooks. This model also features a bar code reader, practical information, buy a book or seen in stores.

The German public will, it, pick LumiRead Wireless in October at a price of 260 usd. The model including the 3G will land him a month later, 320 usd.
