Towards a greener Formula 1?

In the past, the F1 played a pioneering role in technology for application of models. There was thus the direct injection, turbo, variable valve lifting ... Or, more recently, the recovery of kinetic energy with KERS (SREC in French) . The intention is to revive the tradition with a "Green Form". The combination of Formula 1 (FOTA) is preparing a series of measures to improve its image in the field of environment. The key change will be a new engine regulations for 2013, with the return of the turbo. Not to boost performance, but to improve energy efficiency. The SREC will also return next season but the 4-cylinder engines must reduce their consumption of gasoline. This could result in a limited amount of fuel allocated to each team.

To achieve its objectives, FOTA is working with the London firm Trucost, which analysts are specialized in environmental issues. The Manufacturers Association of F1 also continues to consider to reduce CO2 emissions in the next two years, together with the FIA.
