The Fnacbook, the reading lamp of Fnac, offers Wi-Fi and 3G for free
For 199 euros, the free Fnacbook connects to the library's online brand and its 80,000 books. Only the price of books is charged.
Fnac has introduced the Fnacbook, a reading light eBooks. Designed by Sagemcom formerly Sagem, it has a touch screen by 6-inch or 15.2 cm. It uses electronic ink technology SiPix, which displays text and images in black and white but has certain advantages over LCDs: perfect readability without eyestrain, even in bright sunlight, and a range of 15 days or 8,000 page turns, which will take it with you for long trips.
Very compact, weighs Fnacbook the weight of a large paperback book (240 grams) and measures only 15.3 x 12.3 cm to 1.1 cm thick. It has an accelerometer to switch the display to horizontal. Tabs on the side provide quick access to books or Store, the online store Fnac.
Its internal memory of 2 GB is capable of storing 2,000 pounds to EPUB, PDF, TXT and HTML, but also images in JPEG or PNG and music in MP3, since Fnacbook also serves as a player. The memory can be extended to 16GB with a MicroSD slot.
A large French library
Competitor the Amazon Kindle, Sony Reader and a dozen other reading lights, the Fnacbook has the advantage of being connected to the largest electronic bookstore of France, with nearly 80,000 books, paid or free , download, most French. One finds titles of the largest publishing houses, and the package includes nearly 750 comic books. The books are sold at prices that are, at best, less than 20 to 30% to the price of paper versions. Fifty books are preloaded into memory, but they are all from the public domain - in other words, they were published there for decades.
Wi-Fi and 3G for free
Access to this library is facilitated by the Wi-Fi and 3G access free in France (through a partnership with SFR). It can then retrieve the books for free, no charges other than the price of the book itself. However, due to DRM protection, transfer of each title are limited to six playback devices: PC, iPad, iPhone, etc..
