Hp Slate

Hp Slate: HP Tablet finally arrives, but first in the U.S.

Sold $ 799, the touch pad HP has an Atom processor at 1.86 GHz and runs under Windows 7.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, held her at arm's length at CES 2010 in January. The birth of the shelf HP has been difficult: it is only nine months later, Friday, Oct. 22, the launch of the new baby is finally official. At least in the United States. For to see the landing in France, he will have to wait.

Its official name is the Slate 500. As promised Steve Ballmer, it actually works on Windows 7, more precisely in its professional version. One would think that with the acquisition of Palm by HP, the giant could integrate the operating system WebOS, present on the Palm Lawn, more suited to mobile devices.

A capacitive screen similar to that of the iPad

As announced in January, the Slate 500 has a capacitive touch screen of 8.9 inches, 22.6 cm diagonal 1024 x 600 dots.
We can use it with your finger or stylus Wacom provided for note taking. Well it loads an Intel Atom, but a more powerful than the Z530 at 1.6 GHz expected. HP boosts with the Z540 (1 heart) to 1.86 GHz. Similarly, the memory goes from 1 to 2 GB of DDR2. Data storage is handled by a 64GB SSD (against 32 initially planned).

The graphics accelerator supports Broadcom Crystal HD video decoding HD 1080p.

Multimedia side, the Slate 500 has two photo sensors: a front VGA webcam for video conferencing, and a 3 megapixel sensor in the back to take pictures and record videos.
The tablet has a rather qualitative: the metal edges and a back slip plastic. This makes it easier to grip, especially since this tablet weighs only 680 grams. This tablet is positioned in direct competition with Apple iPad: same screen size (9.7 "against 9.8 inches), same weight, with an advantage to the iPad for its superb screen backlit IPS by LEDs and its thickness slightly lower (13.4 mm against 14.7 mm).

A stylus and a cradle

In contrast, the HP model has the advantage of having a USB port, a microSD memory card slot and HDMI output on the docking station. For if the tablet from HP is more expensive than Apple's $ 799 against $ 829, equivalent to model (Wi-Fi + 3G with 64 GB of storage), HP Apple spoils more customers by providing them free Wacom pen, a docking station (with an HDMI port), and a protective pouch.

The HP Tablet Slate 500 will be sold initially in the United States.
HP announced that its marketing in other countries will be conditional to the success of his tablet in the U.S.. In the meantime, we can expect that HP will practice contrary to Apple a favorable exchange rate for Europeans. Indeed, the Apple brand sells the iPad the same price, either in dollars or euros, while nearly 40% difference between the two currencies for the euro.
