3D TV will follow the viewer

To adjust the 3D effect, you just know where the person watching the screen. ST Microelectronics has done, with a controller that, as a bonus, recognizes faces ...

Electronic devices are beginning to look at us! The most spectacular example is KINECTS, the device designed by Microsoft for the XBox game console. A camera and a sensor mounted on a motorized support can identify those in the room and observe their actions, thereby controlling a video game.

This principle allows many other applications. Here's one: the adjustment of the 3D display on a TV, as proposed by the circuit manufacturer ST Microelectronics (STM). A prototype has been showcased at FPD 2010 (Flat Pannel Displays), devoted to the screens.

Future applications

A camera films the room, if a person is present the circuit measures the distance that separates it from the screen. The TV can then change the view to improve depth perception. Similarly, if the viewer moves, the volume can be adjusted to the right and left to ensure a level of play the same on both sides. However, the prototype does not seem to follow one person ...

The circuit is also presented by STM says its manufacturer, recognize faces and measure the ambient lighting to adjust the brightness of the screen.
According to the manufacturer who has demonstrated a prototype system could be integrated with a camera and take it all in a tiny volume of a few millimeters on a side.

To complement and a TV, the definition of the camera should be at least 600 x 200 pixels.
But clearly his intended STM module to other applications and do not in fact provide the camera. The computer user could then also be spotted here, too narrow for a 3D display. But other ideas will surely ...
