New concept introduced by Lamborghini driven box

Lamborghini has developed a completely new V12 6.5 square super delivering 525 kW (700 hp). The search for reducing the weight and bulk weighed heavily in the specification: the set is only 665 mm long and 235 kg, a feat for a V12, including through the cylinder block aluminum alloy high silicon content and the use of carbon fiber parts.

The same concern for lightness has guided the development of the gearbox. It must also provide very sporty driving experience. For these reasons, Lamborghini's engineers have opted for a robotized gearbox and not for a dual-clutch gearbox. She is seven reports of the type with two parallel shafts. The total weight of the transmission is only 70 kg, less than a dual clutch transmissions.

To shorten the time of gear shifting, a new concept has been applied: SRI - Independent Shifting Rod. This time the robot conventional boxes is still long for the reports side by side, which thus shares the same player. When changing, the player disengages a dog, goes through a neutral zone, then meshes with the new dog. This operation doubles the distance and time. Lamborghini has reduced the time by dedicating a player report. The electronics and position sensors provide accurate and eliminate the dead time between the two reports. On average, the speed changes of SRI are 40% faster than the transmission e. gear the Gallardo.
Hydraulic cylinders under a pressure of 60 bars operate four control rods. The system includes a total of 7 valves and hydraulic pressure supplied by an electric pump. For extra durability, the players are carbon fiber.

Three operating modes are possible: the comfort-oriented mode Strada, with automatic option, the Sport mode and dynamic mode Corsa offers the maximum rate of change from driving on the circuit. Launch Control program is also available. Note also that SRI is associated with an AWD with an electromagnetic coupler for front axle control transfer of torque from 0 to 60% of the total.

The new GMP will go into production in early 2011.
