NVidia Tegra 3: a 4-core processor for mobile and tablet

The nVidia graphics card manufacturer is investing increasingly in mobile processors and showed at the Salon Mobile World in Barcelona chip with a power to rival computer processors.

The race for continuous power for mobile phones and tablets. Mobile Lounge at Barcelona (the World Mobile Congress), nVidia has just introduced a processor, Tegra 3, which includes four core ARM Cortex A9. With a rate of 1.5 GHz, the power should be about twice that of a Tegra 2, two hearts, that we begin to see, for example on the tablet and the phone Atrix Xoom.

This new family was already announced at CES in Las Vegas in January, but the last time this circuit has been shown, under its code name Kal-El (who as everyone knows the real name of Superman on his planet Krypton ). The Tegra family 3 should be available in versions for tablet, T30, and smartphone, called AP30.

A chip T30 features a graphics processor to 12 cores (cons 2 on Tegra 2), which should make a good racecar for viewing videos and games. In these versions shelf, nVidia announced a definition of 1,900 x 1,200 points and is compatible with Blu-ray videos. AP30 versions for smartphones will have 2 or 4 cores and allow a definition of 1366 x 768 pixels.

My phone is louder than my PC?

These performances are consistent with current screens but Tegra 3 seem to do better. At the presentation in Barcelona, a T30 showed a video of 2,560 x 1,600 dots on a screen 30 inches diagonally (76 cm) connected with HDMI. Still according to its manufacturer, the T30 is more powerful than an Intel 2 Duo T7200 2 GHz.

In order not to collapse the autonomy of manned aircraft by Superman, a mode ULP (Ultra Low Power) will disable the hearts useless when the user will require a low fire power (eg when it will not be as phone ...).

While the first two Tegra 3D (T25 and AP25 versions tablets and smartphones), 2 cores and 1.2 GHz, will begin production, marketing Tegra 3 will take place until mid-year . It should appear in the fall or winter of touch pads more powerful than many of today's PCs ... Such a race for power might explain why, according to rumors, Apple will present this year's iPad 3.
