Volvo and driving connected system

To complete the presentation of advanced safety equipment 360, Following my trip to Sweden, I chose to complete the communication between vehicles and the infrastructure. Volvo is part of the European consortium Car2Car, which I have already spoken several times on this blog. As such, the Swedish brand testing of vehicles equipped with wireless communication and able to interact with their environment. The technology, which combines Wi-Fi and mobile phone, could be deployed from 2016.

Watch the video:

During our stay on the center of Stora Holm, we tested several scenarios.

The first was a dialogue with the lights. The interest is to get on board on a screen a counter allowing know when the signal lights will change from red to green.

Other useful information: the speed (eg 40 km / h) to have the assurance of being able to go all green lights and reduce consumption while guaranteeing the fluidity.

The system also allows for also alerts in case of bad local weather conditions, such as heavy rain, snow and ice. It is also possible to transmit and share with other vehicles information as portions of icy or slippery roads. During our test, a car committing a watered track and returned to our attention a warning signal.

Another very important info: Vehicles brake heavily before and that can create a dangerous situation. The Car2Car alarm system in case of sudden deceleration. It is also used to detect slow-moving vehicles or down.

During our test, Volvo had simulated a broken car in a blind curve.

With this type of communication, the driver is warned of the approach of emergency vehicles, so as to facilitate their transition. We have been alerted to the presence of a police vehicle that would overtake us.

We have not reviewed all of the scenarios. We can add to this list the warning work zone, alert on the upstream plug, alert Traffic light, speed limits or temporary standard (from the panels), or a signal indicating an approaching motorcycle.
