This OLED TV demonstrates that the screens still have a great future. Its display quality is almost perfect in every way. LG offers a magical image with its curved OLED TV; OLED technology offers us an eyeful for several months, and testing of the 55-inch LG signed frieze confirm perfection. It is LG that delivered us our first OLED TV (organic light-emitting diode), the 55EA980V, sold for $ 8,000. This curved 55-inch diagonal display a Full HD picture. Each pixel are composed of four sub-pixels (red, green, blue and white).
Design side, it is above all the finesse of the screen which has impressed us. The slab is so thin that it is flexible. Already bent, it can even bend very easily. Certainly, the nerve center of the TV is thicker, to group audio-video and electronics device interfaces. The foot also displays an aesthetic worked, with two built-in speakers. However small problem: exclusive choice of plastics denotes a bit with the high price range of the device.

Visual Slap Warranty With LG 55EA980V OLED TV
Watch a OLED screen, especially in the dark, is to see an image that comes out of nowhere. OLED pixels producing their own light (no need for backlighting, that is why the slab is ultra fine) and when they see black: they are extinguished. Suddenly, the black absolutely emits no light, This screen gives a contrast ratio of infinity, regardless of the brightness of the white.
Suddenly, the colors are much more developed. They are rich and appear very bright, even if the average brightness of the screen is a bit small (181 cd / m²). In "THX Cinema" mode, these colors are true (average DeltaE 2.31) and cover 91% of the sRGB color space. Last quality that OLED technology is disconcertingly fast. We measured an average response time of 2 ms (0.79 ms and 1.29 ms uphill downhill). A result that we have not yet had never found. The picture is perfectly clear in all circumstances!
A tiny room for improvement
Warning, this TV is subject to the problem of marking slab: we left an afternoon on the DVD menu, and we found that the white part of the fixed menu is printed on the screen remained the next day! On the other hand, the first OLED TV model may still - very slightly - to improve. Firstly, it is a shame to have opted for a passive 3D technology (very expensive LG) on this screen, which divides the image definition by two (1920 x 540 pixels). The OLED panel is so fast she could see the active 3D without any problem image « crosstalk » duplication. Second B flat, we saw a slightly greenish tint on the white and gray screen. Our colorimetric probes have not yet noticed (average temperature of 6388 ° K to gray). Is it due to the polarizing filter required for passive 3D, that reflects a portion of ambient light in a green color slightly? No answer yet. But nothing really annoying.
Another detail on the OLED screens as smartphones or plasma screens, the OLED TV displays a highly variable brightness depending on the image. More there is of lit pixels, they are less bright. A small white square on a black background thus absolve 382 cd / m² brightness, while a white image in full screen drops to 90 cd / m². This problem impacts the regularity of the brightness shades of gray, Slaying the gamma of the screen (1.1 in « THX Cinema » mode, when it should be 2.2). It is possible to see with the naked eye brightness variations on patterns, but in practice much less (movies, etc..) this is not too annoying.
One last detail: the contrast ratio is no longer a problem (it is infinite), you must wager that future tests will focus on the spread of white light from within the slab. For example, we found that close to a white square on a black background (about 2 cm), the brightness of the black is 0.01 cd / m², while it is absent beyond. This is very serious for nyctalopic animals! How does it quibble?
Ergonomics And Audio Quality At The Height In LG 55EA980V OLED TV
As usual, the LG menus are among the best on the market: nice, very fast, responsive and fluid. It is a pleasure to use, especially with gyroscopic remote LG, accurate and responsive as a lever Wii console! On the audio side, the speakers on this TV are a great job. The sound still lacks a bit of bass, but it is powerful and better defined than other high-end TVs.
Our Opinion
OLED technology overwrites the LCD in all areas. It offers all the advantages of plasma without its flaws (low light, small flickering for some sensitive eyes, and huge power consumption). This TV is truly magical! But for $ 8000, a pity that its passive 3D technology is underutilized potential of its slab.
