United States the average consumption below 10 litres/100 km in 2012

United States the average consumption below 10 litres/100 km in 2012
According to the data protection agency in the U.S. (EPA) new vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2012 consumed an average of 9.97 litres/100 km.This is the first time the 10 litres/100 km is crossed.

The agency of the U.S. Environmental Protection (EPA) has released its annual report on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of new vehicles sold in the United States for the year 2012.Record year as consumption falls below 10 litres/100 km,"No doubt" for the first time, and that CO2 emissions are also reaching a historic low.

In passing 10.5 litres/100 km in 2011 to 9.97 litres/100 km in 2012, the average consumption recorded its second biggest drop (0.53 litres/100 km) for 30 years. This is due to the increase in downsized vehiclesDiesel or hybrids sold last year, particularly through models of Japanese brands. The most virtuous ranges were in effect at Mazda,Honda, Toyota and Subaru, Volkswagen appearing between Honda and Toyota in the rankings. No American brand on the horizon ...

An average of 233 g CO2/km

CO2 side,Americans have never been better, too, in 2012,with an average of ... 233 grams of CO2/km.Something to take maximum malus EUR 8000 in Europe, but it still represents a decrease of 14 g CO2/km from 2011.

Note that these figures may seem high compared to those provided by the manufacturers on the technical specifications of their models but this is normal since the LFS data are derived from surveys of actual consumption. The average vehicle sold in the United States in 2012 weighed 1,807 kilos developing 222 horsepower and swallowed the 0-100 km / h in 9.4 seconds. In 2011, these figures were 1876 kilos 230 horses and also 9.4 seconds. In some ways, lower weight offset lower power.

For the year 2013, progress should continue as provisional figures from the EPA show a declining consumption 9.8 litres/100 km and emissions reduced to 230 grams of CO2/km.
