An Evaluation Of Construction Project Manager Software

By Jaclyn Hurley

Computers are dedicated systems that are run by special applications installed. These applications are used for data entry and manipulations. The applications define the various inputs and the expected outputs. They also help managers plan for the resource allocation and uses. Most of the managers use the specially developed construction project manager software in the planning and allocations of available resources.

The planning stage is very critical for most of operations within the companies undertaking development. At this stage, the complex processes are broken down into smaller operations which can be handled separately. This is followed by definition of objectives. This gives the firms undertaking the development a sense of direction as the managers know what is expected at the different times. The inputs variables are defined and this is followed by the definition of outputs.

Cost estimation is also very important as it takes the costs to be incurred into consideration. This is done through the process of budgeting. The drafts are then processed into estimates that are used for gauging the costs of operations. There are flexible budgets also. These are used especially where the costs of materials under consideration fluctuate unexpectedly. The inflation may eat into the budgets and thus the flexibility of the estimates gives the managers a chance to adjust the estimates.

Scheduling is done by the use of special tools that are provided by the software packages. The tools help the managers break down the various operations. This is followed by the estimation of time required to perform each operation. Aggregate time scales are developed soon afterwards. This ensures that all the operations are completed within the specified time frame. This reduces the chances of having delays which could eat into budgets.

Most of operations within a construction site are related to one another in a special way. Dependency charts are used for the formulation of the relationships that may exist in different events. The tools used for developing the dependency charts are very detailed. They provide the managers with information about the sequencing of operations. This ensures that core operations are finished first followed by the supporting processes.

Constraints are defined so as to clearly understand how they influence the occurrences of different events. Time, costs and scope are some of the constraints that need to be managed well. These may affect the completion as required by the time scales. The delays may increase the cost of construction in some way. Warning systems are used in their management.

The management of human resources is very complex. There are engineers that are employed by the firms undertaking the projects. There are designers who plan and undertake the feasibility tests. These have to be paid and allocated the required resources. The packages installed into computers are usually used for undertaking various operations relating to payments and resource allocation.

The approximation of costs and benefits are produced after the estimation process. The expected results form a very great background of evaluating the achievement of objectives. The actual results are compared with the expected results. This forms the basis of evaluation of achievement of objectives.
