The Varied Private Tutor Types

By Wanda Rosner

Many times parents find themselves in need of a private tutor to help their children in schoolwork. Many people would just search online on the tutor finder website for private tutors. However, it is not a simple matter as there are many types of private tutors and you just cannot pick any. You have to be specific on the type according to the needs of your child.

Tutors who teach children between the ages of 4 and 5 before they enter kindergarten are called pre k tutors. They mainly encourage children to read and love learning. They teach patience as the child is made to listen to stories. One tactic is that they use puppets and involve children in storytelling. Furthermore, they teach the alphabet and basic phonics to achieve their goal of improved comprehension and vocabulary.

Elementary tutors usually tutor elementary aged kids who find it difficult to learn and get through standardized tests. The elementary grades mainly form the basis for the middle and high school levels. They help in a range of subjects like math, science, social studies and even music.

For middle and high school kids, general tutors are usually called upon. They usually help them prepare for upper level school applications. As children advance from middle to high level schools, the intensity of tutoring increases. They will offer support in a broad number of subjects to help them finish their schoolwork and pass their tests.

Special education tutors are especially trained to help kids with special needs. They usually have degrees in special education and offer specialized services to children with a range of conditions. Children may suffer from conditions like autism, dyslexia, speech and language issues and other special needs. In addition, they are not limited to children as they can work with children of ages and abilities.

Tutors who specialize in a particular subject are called specialty subject tutors. They are especially helpful to high schoolers with problems in a particular subject. If ones dream is to become a doctor, they can be helped with a tutor trained in biology and help them get to their dream collages. They are particularly useful for high schoolers and those who have joined collage recently.

Test prep tutors provide support to children of any age by preparing standardized tests or specialized admission tests. They are mainly used for high school students preparing for college entrance exams. Nevertheless, times have changed and parents are even having preschool tested for admission tests to gifted and talented programs or specialized schools.

Kids who just need assistance to get through day-to-day homework challenges probably need a homework helper. They do not have to be intensively trained and one can even hire senior kids. They just provide basic homework assistance and supervision where necessary. This particularly helps middle and high school level students who want to focus and take their work seriously. There are many types of tutors and it is upon the parent to sort out which is the best one to tutor their child.
