Microsoft has announced record results for its second quarter 2010. Its net profit amounted to 4.52 billion dollars, an increase of 48% over the same period last year. Turnover reached 16.04 billion dollars, an increase of 22%. It's Windows 7 that the Redmond company owes its excellent performance: it said it had sold to date 175 million licensing.
What it is indeed better to Apple, which has yet announced a few days ago very good results with a quarterly revenue of $ 15.7 billion and 3.25 billion profit.
It is without doubt the excellent health of the Apple brand and its 8.4 million iPhones sold, as Nokia has its worries. The Finnish manufacturer has "just" 227 million euros in net profits between April and June 2010, a decrease of 40%. Turnover rose by only 1% to 10 billion euros. However, sales volume of Nokia were up 8%, but this is not enough to offset the decline in market share (33%) and lower average selling phones (from 64-61 dollars).
Nokia is counting on the launch of the N8, scheduled for the end of the year to win back market share.
