Sony unveils a prototype three-dimensional video game
Unveiled yesterday, recalled RayModeler holograms of science fiction movies like Star Wars.
The Battle of the 3D is just beginning, and the various manufacturers do not finish polishing their weapons. Yesterday was the turn of Sony to demonstrate its RayModeler, which found a fascinating video (see end of article).
From the outset, the very form of the device is surprising. There is no question here of a screen but a "platform autostereoscopic" a cylindrical object 27 cm high x 13 cm wide running LEDs. It requires the use of appropriate spectacles none.
The particularity of RayModeler? A stationary observer does not receive three-dimensional effect itself. However, the image is perceived differently by the viewer's position: We can track the "spin" the projected image depending on whether one moves around, that we move away or that we ' approach.
The 3D volumetric tube
The result is closer to the hologram of Princess Leia or the virtual model of the Death Star in Star Wars as the now well-known 3D screen. A distinction is still poorly all the practical applications of such a prototype, which it will be impossible, for example, have a surrounding scenery.
But its compatibility with computers and joysticks and motion detector makes a device as curious as promising. During his demonstration, Sony and it is used for projecting a breakout game, which display very simple and abstract graphics ideally suited to a volumetric display.
