Test Mazda 6 2.2 MZR-CD: young dynamic

Introduced in 2007, the Mazda 6 did not really need to lift both its line remains one of the most dynamic in its class. But Mazda has used his last appearance at the Geneva Motor Show to unveil a reworked version, just to allow him to calmly continue its merry way. Retouching within fortunately detail.

It will however take a look well advised to identify the differences made to the Japanese family, we had already taken in hand, already in its wagon version, dubbed "Fastwagon. We will give you a hand: the differences lie mainly in the front bumper, which is more aggressive, particularly at openings incorporating fog lights, and grille, plus wrap around the logo. Fires are also entitled to a few changes, including the back where they look to be too "tuning" by some does not unanimous.
Board, changes are more succinct: except the new steering wheel, nothing changes but the material benefit to revise their quality increased.

Under the hood, the 2.0 liter 140 horsepower diesel disappears in favor of a new variant of the 2.2l, 129 hp strong. But in its diesel version the more aggressive we have taken over the "6", with its 180 horsepower and 400Nm of torque, and achieved 3.500tr/min 1.800tr/min respectively. Values unchanged from the previous version then. We therefore find major defects, such as its total under 1.700tr/min flabby, and his qualities, as "kick ass" feel when the turbo engages in 1.800tr/min. The engine is far from offering the usual flexibility of the blocks because diesel also tends to tail off fairly early, 4.200tr/min, but compensates for this defect by dynamism clearly displayed.
But if the engine remains the same, engineers have made a few rounds of key frames that provide performance still further at the "6", already one of the most effective in its segment. Behind the wheel, "6" does not feel like driving a big car as it connects the curves with ease, precision and dynamism that we are not accustomed to find this level range.
Short, direct and precise control box typically Mazda is always nice feel while the suspension firmed the advantage of fully taking hold of the car rolling, but pay degraded road crossings, where their Drought punishes comfort, especially on the rear.
In this estate version 2.2 MZR-CD 180 horses dynamics, the "6" is billed 32,000 euros all round fully equipped (33,990 euros in Belgium), and outside the penalty through its CO2 emissions homologated at 142gr/km. The official consumption advanced by Mazda is set to 5.4 l/100km, but for our part, we merely have a very satisfactory 6.9 l/100km in our test, rather dynamic.

Conclusion
Revisited improved, the Mazda 6 is more than ever a family of the most fun to drive. But if the pleasure of driving is not your first quest at the wheel, or you make a lot of trips in urban areas, you may regret the lack of flexibility of the engine at low speeds, requiring a report to board, or relative harshness of the suspensions.
