We tried the TV C9000 8 mm thick Samsung
We tried the new LCD TV Premium Samsung, which reveal some interesting details.
The C9000 has not had trouble getting a strong impression at last CES 2010 in Las Vegas. His finesse and big size have attracted much interest: 55 inches diagonally to a thickness of less than 8 mm! A few months later, we went to Samsung to approach the beast and try it, and above all learn many technical details very informative.
A response time measure
Samsung has a maximum concentration of technology in the C9000, including improving the response time of pixels. Firstly, the 3D function optimization, also accessible from the menu of previous C8790 and C7700, which adapts the television room temperature. Level 1 corresponds to a temperature of 18 ° C, the level 2-21 ° C and 3 at a temperature of 24 ° C. The next television manufacturer will even be equipped with temperature sensors at several ends of the screen, for automatically adjusting the optimization function of temperatures recorded by each sensor. For the pixel response time varies depending on the ambient temperature, we must adapt the technology overdrive this parameter.
As a reminder, the system applies a voltage overdrive occasionally superior to the pixels to change their position more quickly, thus reducing their response time. Here, Samsung pushes the tip even further implement adaptive overdrive, which varies unevenly on the surface of the LCD panel, depending on the effort required by each pixel of the image. A chip analyzes the image and applies a more powerful overdrive to pixels that have oscillated between two very different colors, and a surge in lower areas where the color changes are less radical. This technique is also thought to optimize the 3D display, reducing the effect of «crosstalk» (when a ghost image appears when the pixels do not have enough time to answer).
Happiness is in the foot
Television is so thin that it took all adjusted accordingly. The frame and base are aluminum, but an internal frame in a new metal alloy reinforces the screen against twisting. Samsung did not disclose the nature of this metal, a recipe kept secret in the laboratories of the manufacturer.
All components of the television is placed in the base of his foot. It includes all food and electronics of C9000, as well as a subwoofer and speakers.
A remote control out of the ordinary
The remote is particularly impressive. It displays a capacitive touch screen interface and perfectly responsive, able to control all camera functions. Better yet, the remote acts as secondary television, it is connected via Wi-Fi in the second tuner digital TV. So, you can watch one show on television, and a different channel in another room, or even a movie DVD or Blu-ray disc inserted into the player's lounge.
This little box is actually a universal remote capable of controlling 97% of audiovisual equipment market. Its firmware can be updated to incorporate new devices recently released on the market. All functions of a universal remote control are available, including the ignition and extinction of chained all devices on the living room by a single simple handling.
3D still go
The active 3D glasses included with the C9000 retain exactly the same design as previous models, but their lenses have been improved for better contrast ratio and greater responsiveness. This helps to obscure the vision of each eye, and especially to greatly reduce the flicker effect that many current glasses cause against artificial lighting.
The 3D effect is obviously appointment. However, we observed a persistent ghost image when projecting a 3D Blu-ray, an effect of fluctuating crosstalk, we had already observed with the first 3D television UE46C7700 Samsung. This defect appears in any other situation, however, display 3D: 3D show side by side, converting 2D to 3D on the fly, etc..
NO LOCAL Diminga!
This TV is so thin that it necessarily requires a technology backlight LED Edge-type, which involves placing LEDs along the four sides of the screen. LEDs have been increasingly miniaturized (5.1 mm against 6.8 mm for the previous generation), and their efficiency has improved by 15%, according to Samsung.
The C9000 does not, however, the technology of «local Diminga», which reduces the intensity of the LED lighting only on the darkest parts of the image to improve contrast ratio, of get darker blacks, without degrading the brightness of light areas. Samsung Master, however, the technique of darkening the room with a backlit LED Edge-type, but the reason for the lack of technology in the C9000 is very simple, even too simple: there was no room in the base of the foot to include the electronics needed to control the local Diminga! It is rather unfortunate for a high-end television.
This television pushes the luxury even further, it is hoped that in our tests, the absence of local Diminga does not handicap the quality of the contrast displayed by the LCD panel. The price of the C9000 is not yet decided to France. We already know that initially, the model has a detachable foot for wall will not be marketed in France.
