IFA 2010: LG OLED TV signs the world's largest

This 31-inch OLED TV is the largest of the moment. LG is preparing to market a version of 15 inches.

After the commercialization of the first OLED TV market, the XEL-1 from Sony, a tiny 11 inches already bluffing in terms of image quality, this time LG has a model 31-inch diagonal. This prototype AMOLED technology is primarily a technological showcase, but LG already sells a model at 15.1 inches, the 15EL9500.

Less than 3 mm thick!

AMOLED technology uses organic light emitting diodes that produce themselves their light. The backlight of the slab is no longer necessary, which allows the screen to be particularly thin. Thus, this 31-inch TV is only 2.9 mm thick. The model is 15.1 inches sold barely thicker 3.2 mm.

The prototype 31-inch displays full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) and enjoy all the benefits of OLED technology: a contrast ratio perfect, a zero remanence, unlimited viewing angles. In short, all the visual qualities of a CRT, but with one flaw: the lifetime of organic LEDs is deemed relatively short face of current LCD technologies.

The model of 15.1-inch displays sold his share to a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Equipped with technology Turmotion 100 Hz, it shows a contrast ratio of 10,000 000:1 and may be less than 1600 euros in France. For it is the second flaw of AMOLED technology: the price rises very quickly depending on the size of the slab.
