TI launches high efficiency converter designed for applications with low power consumption and energy recovery

This down-converter DC / DC 75mA accepts input voltages from 2 to 15V and consumes only 11μA of quiescent current ...

Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today introduced a down-converter ultra-low power high performance for applications with low power consumption and energy recovery. The new TPS62120 has returned 96% and may generate an output current of 75mA from an input voltage of between 2 and 15V. This converter is suitable for high performance energy recovery, the battery-operated devices, Equipment 9V and 12V AC mains operated. For more information, see the webpage http://www.ti.com/tps62120-preu.

The TPS62120 synchronous converter has an energy saving mode ensuring a high return on the entire range of load current, which reached 75% at loads of only 100μA. In low load conditions, the component switches to pulse frequency modulation (PFM) and only then a quiescent current of 11μA. The TPS62120 also displays a copy operation to higher currents by switching automatically from power saving mode to pulse width modulation (PWM) at a fixed frequency.

Key features and benefits of the TPS62120

• flexible voltage range: 2 to 15V input and 1.2 to 5.5 V output, to power a variety of microcontrollers, such as the MSP430 ™ ultra-low power consumption, and the platform CC430, a single chip RF solution
exploiting the low power MSP430.
• Soft start from very low energy sources: large hysteresis UVLO (off in case of under-voltage) operating range of 2.5 V (voltage rising) to 1.85 V (voltage down).
• Very low power consumption: 75mA output and energy saving mode with quiescent current of 11μA.

Availability and Pricing

The TPS62120 is available now from TI and its authorized distributors in SOT-23 8-pin 3x3mm. The TPS62122 is, it was proposed in 6-pin QFN 2x2mm. Their recommended retail price is respectively 0.95 and $ 1.05 per lot of 1,000 pieces.
