Google will open an «innovation center» in London, the first in Europe
The giant American Internet Google announced Thursday the opening in London in 2011 of a «center of innovation», the first of its kind in Europe, while the British government seeks to attract technology companies. The center will host training workshops and demonstration of products for start-ups and engineers, and enable staff to work with Google to developers. «We have no equivalent in Europe,» said a spokesman for Google.
He will be based in the east of the British capital, an area undergoing transformation for the 2012 Olympics, where British Prime Minister David Cameron plans to open a center dedicated to technology companies. Three U.S. companies, the microprocessor giant Intel, the social networking site Facebook and the telecom equipment maker Cisco, are already committed to locate in this neighborhood.
«We will not just support big business today, but also support those of tomorrow,» said Mr Cameron was on Thursday in London, in a speech. «We are firmly on the side of high growth companies and very innovative. Do not doubt our ambition.» The Prime Minister had also announced the establishment of a «visa contractor» for easy installation in Britain of foreigners who have «good ideas» and have a «significant investment». This announcement should be made as the government pledged to tighten entry conditions on British soil.
