Olympus Pen E-PL2

Evolution of the compact with interchangeable lenses from Olympus Pen
As for Pen E-PL2, Olympus is the basis of E-PL1 and improves the finery, features and accessories.

Olympus Pen E-PL2

Within this new Pen E-PL2, compact interchangeable optical input range of Olympus, we find the same technical basis as its predecessor (E-P1, P2 and E-E-PL1), namely a 12.3 Megapixel Live MOS sensor. Intended as a replacement for the E-PL1, PL2 E-Pen but good idea to steal the shutter speeds (1 / 4 000th and 60 s) high-end model (Pen EP-2) rather only the E-PL1, more limited (1 / 2 000 and 30 s).

Finally a good screen

Pen series suffered from a flaw: the screen 230 000 pixels of poor quality. E-PL2 break this tradition and relies on a screen 460 000 points is hoped mat. Nothing revolutionary (NEX5 the Sony has a screen of 921 000 points!) But Olympus fills its late here and keeps the flash E-PL1.

Grip knob and better finish

One of the objections that could be done to E-PL1 was finishing his plastic "toy Playskool, 3 years and over." E-PL2 again brings significant improvements with a more qualitative coating, a front grip and a thumbwheel to navigate menus instead of buttons a little cheap to the previous version. The unit also undergoes a facelift and a small weight loss. And benefits to support SDXC.

Basic video mode, not always taken minijack

Stuck in HD 720p (1280 x 720 pixels) encapsulated in AVI and MJPEG-encoded, the video of this Pen E-PL2 is the same as its predecessors, at a time when competition going on at the Full HD (1920 x 1 080) on ... compacts! Too bad, as the lack of mic inputs and / or headphones. Certainly, Olympus offers a shotgun microphone to be placed on the accessory shoe but it owns. Or how to force consumers to use Olympus accessories.

An array of accessories, new optical base

To equip the Pen E-PL2, there is of course parks optical Olympus and Panasonic (standard micro 4 / 3) but also two new wide-angle, the WCON-PO1 for a normal effect and FCON-PO1 for a fish-eye effect (respectively 90 and $ 150). Supplements plus the MCON-PO1 ($ 50) to boost the potential of its macro perspective - is the only 14-42 mm. An optical base that sustains it also improved and reached version 2: Quieter and more rapid development, it is adapted to video. Besides the additional optical Olympus launches Bluetooth transmitter (PP1, $ 80) and, more interestingly, both arms of LED (MAL-1, $ 50) which will inform ideal subjects for macro shooting.

Available current or late January 2011, the Pen E-PL2 arrives in four colors (black, silver, white and red) to $ 599 with 14-42 mm and its $ 899 with the 14-150 mm.
