Canon EOS 1100D

SLR: the EOS 1100D Canon's new will struggle against Nikon
The 1100D is the new entry-level SLRs from Canon. If the video hosts finally, innovations are shy.

After three years of loyal service, the EOS 1000D is bowing out and had been replaced by the EOS 1100D, an entry-level housing. In direct competition with Nikon D3100 (read review), it receives a new economic SLR APS-C 12.2 MP and Digic IV image processor, a duo that should provide good photographic performance. The final files (RAW only) will be recorded on 14-bit like his older brothers, not 12-bit like his grandfather.

The maximum ISO up

With the 1100D, the entry passes from 1 600 to 6400 ISO, which makes sense since it is now the lot of all cameras. It took at least since the 1000D it was difficult to ISO 800, where the modern reflex to work 1600. If we can only rejoice at the advent of video in the entry level of Canon, we grind our teeth a bit, seeing that it is limited to 720p. At a time when CDs are starting to take the Full HD and facing a Nikon D3100 can record videos in 1080p (1920 x 1080 dots / progressive). Coupled with mono sound and no microphone input and the enamel of our teeth still suffer ...

Limited screen resolution

Since the 1000D or D3100, the screen is 1100D has only 230 000 points. On a screen of 6.8 inches diagonal it makes little, very little, especially since the majority of current CD are displayed on 460 000 or 920 000 points! Or how the middle and high-end compact is better than the entry-level SLR.

Stabilized optical ... or not

It is little surprise that LA 1100D: it will be sold at $ 449 bare as early as April, and comes in two different kits with two different optical 18-55 mm, one stabilized EF-S 18 -55 mm F3.5-5.6 IS II, the other is not stabilized, the new EF-S 18-55 mm F3.5-5.6 III prices for the moment unknown. This weight difference - zoom entry-level non-stabilized is guaranteed to get lots of blurred images - therefore directs consumers to be vigilant about the product purchased.
