Mercedes will generalize the emergency call in 2013

Mercedes emergency call 2013
Last June, and three years ahead of the date set by the European Commission (2015), Mercedes-Benz has decided to launch its system of emergency call, in partnership with Bosch. Service will be extended to 19 European countries (The emergency call has already been introduced in nine European countries last summer: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland. From 1 January 2013, ten more will follow: Norway, Finland, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Portugal, Luxembourg and Malta.) from 1 January 2013. Accident, when the airbags are deployed, the COMAND on line is able to send an SMS alert with the GPS coordinates of the vehicle. Communication passes through the driver's mobile phone and is transferred to a call center Bosch, which then contact the emergency services.

Contrary to what is provided in Europe, the car does not dial 112 which is supported locally, but a preprogrammed number where the driver can speak in their language of origin to an operator. This is the model chosen by BMW, PSA and Volvo. According to Mercedes, the warning time for relief could be reduced by 50% in rural areas and 40% in cities. This could mean up to 2,500 deaths on the roads less per year in the EU.
