OLED Technology: sharper images and less consumption
Epson has recently demonstrated a 40-inch slab that uses OLED Technology (Organic Light-Emitting Diode).
Reminder screens equipped with this technology emit visible light from any angle, also provide more vivid images and sharper, have a lower power consumption than LCDs and a lower manufacturing cost .
Epson said that the prototype provided a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels and will be available in 2007 (probably as an HDTV).
For its part Samsung unveiled a 17-inch OLED screen that displays a 1600x1200 resolution and a brightness of 400 lumens. The prototype presentation consuming no more energy than a 15-inch LCD screen and had a thickness equal to only a third of that of a conventional LCD. Samsung has announced that he hoped to market the screen next year.
Manufacturers adopt the technology OLED still face problems related to life products and production problems / performance. Currently OLED technology is primarily used on mobile devices. However, large manufacturers expect to democratize the next few years.
