Of the three models of this watch, the screen resolution of 300 dots per inch provides a viewing angle of 180 degrees. This is not an OLED display but for EPD Electrophoretic display (electrophoretic display). This electronic ink (owned bySeiko), as it knows about e-books, the most common being that of E-Ink.
Such a display is mainly composed of millions of microcapsules, each measuring the diameter of a hair. Each microcapsule contains negatively charged white particles and positively charged black particles suspended in a clear liquid.
Synchronization by radio
When a certain electric field is applied, the white particles move to the top of the microcapsule and black down. By reversing the field, the white and black exchange their positions: it can show black spots or white.
In addition to this original display, the watch syncs continuously by radio. Other watch manufacturers have incorporated this Japanese radio technology at their watches such as Citizen and Casio. While the Chinese market is booming, Citizen has built abroadcast antenna 250 meters in Henan Province, which began broadcasting in June2007.
The new Seiko watch is powered by a solar battery that recharges by itself and can last up to nine months without exposure to light.
