Toshiba introduces a set of integrated circuits with high output current for charging a wireless device in free positioning

A new set of integrated circuits with a transceiver with double coil technology offers WPC Qi ™ design and facilities for charging free positioning on the reload surface ...

Toshiba Electronics Europe has announced a set of transmitter and receiver integrated circuits for high efficiency charging mobile phones and other portable devices powered by battery technology using free positioning on a precise surface recharge (free positioning).
Toshiba set integrated circuits wireless free positioningThe set of integrated circuits is fully compatible with the specification of the interface Qi Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), for A4, A8, A12 and A14. It consists of the power transmitter TB6865FG and receiver TB6860WBG, and with present control architecture European Union double coil for a refill cost of the battery. The position of a mobile device is detected by the circuit TB6865FG and one of the two coils is supplied for charging, thus preserving the effectiveness of charging while allowing freedom of positioning of the charging area. End users can then place a phone says Qi-able on a compliant surface charge Qi and achieve a higher efficiency of 74% on most (1) of the recharge zone. Flexibility circuit design TB6865FG also allows control of two coils, and therefore it is possible to simultaneously charge two phones.

The new set of integrated circuits Toshiba is built around the technology of microcontrollers and analog integrated circuits of society, and displays a high integration density in order to reduce the number of components on the circuit board, space used on the card and the cost of wireless charging applications. The transmitter TB6865FG contains both a microcontroller and analog elements as the PWM function, the switching control, the integrated filter and a pre-driver. The receiver combines TB6860WBG modulation functions and control to protection functions and decision-line as well as a DC-DC converter of type of high performance buck.

The circuit TB6860WBG charging profile provides a programmable via I2C control. The integrated DC-DC converter provides a highly efficient charging at high current with load current up to 1.2 A. The integrated protection covers the receiver circuit input voltage, the output current, the conditions on temperature and metal detection.

TB6865FG circuit is presented in a box LQFP100 14 mm x 14 mm while the circuit TB6860WBG is sold in a box WCSP39 measuring 4.29 mm x 2.69 mm. Toshiba is a member of WPC since 2011. In addition to the wireless charging solutions by induction, the company is also actively involved within work R & D for develop Commercial solutions for extending the distance of charging using a coupling resonance.
